I’m going to be a little controversial here and firstly tell you who I’m not:
I haven’t sold a million-pound business.
I haven’t successfully coached anyone into creating a billion-pound enterprise either.
I haven’t climbed Mt. Everest.
Nor have I developed world-class brands.
But, before you leave, hear me out…
My name’s Rory, hello!
Now, I have: delivered technical projects, self-studied new technologies, in the process of learning a second language, painted canvases, written songs and short stories, run a half-marathon – and several more kilometres! Lost 10 kilos in 3 months and the list goes on…
A little more about me…
I come from a working-class family and pretty humble beginnings. My career started at the bottom of the ladder as an Office Junior collecting mail, filling up printers and answering phones to eventually managing successful projects with huge budgets.
I have spent years in various therapies (and studied a bit of psychology myself). I’m determined. Love writing. Advocate sharing knowledge, advice and ideas, and lastly, I give a damn.
What’s this site all about?
I want to give you from my experience content, advice, tips, and a forum to help motivate, organise, structure, and spur you on. Whether that’s tools for managing household finances or savings goals, tips to stay motivated about health and fitness, improving your organisational skills for work or self-motivation and structure for studying. All from someone who might be a little closer to home and following the same journey.
Why?
I’m a technical project manager by day and work in the media technology industry – doing so for almost a decade! At the beginning of the 2020 pandemic I hit a wall – or as some call it a ‘funk’. Stressed, tired, uncertain and a bit down in the dumps. I took an inward look and asked myself some pretty tough questions. Fed up with feeling fatigued all the time, beating myself up that I wasn’t doing anything productive and slipping into poor habits. This eventually led to something inside me changing and from then I started hitting new goals, learning new skills, getting back into running and back to the gym.
That something was a change in my mindset. These bounce-back moments have happened a few times throughout my life so far. From being riddled with debt to affording a mortgage in London at the age of 27 – and having savings in the bank! From the stagnation of skills to a wealth of new abilities. All whilst dealing with historical trauma, mental health challenges and general life matters.
I know first-hand from attempts to motivate myself, the difficulty there is to find genuine advice to get motivated and back on track. Especially from someone just like me who has been there and turned it around too.
“OK, well that’s nice and all… But, what’s that got to do with me?”
That’s got everything to do with you!
It’s a tough world out there and sometimes, it feels like we’re missing a little help from one another. Whilst I’m figuring it all out for myself, why not share something that works for me, with you too?
However, if you’re on the right track already and don’t need help, congratulations! That’s great! Feel free to share your experiences or ideas with me via the contact page and maybe you could even guest write an article or two?
The idea of sharing what I think and what I do really hit home when family, friends and colleagues started saying to me, things like:
“I don’t know how you do it, Rory?”
“How do you have the motivation to wake up at 6 am, go to the gym, shower, eat, study a language for another hour and then do a full day’s work?”
“How do you save so much money?”
“How do you fit it all in, I just don’t have the time?”
“I don’t have the energy.”
“I’m too busy.”
“I’ll never stick to it.”
Well, if you follow me along on this journey of posts, articles, thoughts, ramblings and philosophies – I’ll help you know how I do it too.
Just like I have shared with my family, friends and colleagues, I will share with you my resources, tools, concepts, exercises, methodologies and madness. Because everyone has potential – funk or no funk. Whether you want to minimalise a little, strive for efficiency, save a little, reclaim some time or change the way you think about how you spend your time. We’ll get there.
Thank you
I hope that’s enough to encourage you to check out the posts on my blog and a big thanks for dropping by and making it all the way here.
We’ve got this.
